Project: BSides Rochester is an annual cybersecurity conference in Rochester, New York. In their sixteenth year, we continued our tradition of using the city's icon, the lilac. The winters and lake effect can be brutal in the spring in the Great Lakes region, so we went for ice and snow. Dr. Cathy Ullman, the director, suggeseted a steampunk aesthetic.
Next, I secretly asked the keynote speaker, muteki, for some ideas. She had recently visited Antarctica and fell in love with penguins. Ice is to penguins as steampunk Edwardian tuxedo waistcoat is to penguins, so dapper penguin in a frozen scene, coming right up!
